Kiama Lighthouse on Blowhole Point opened on New Year's Day, 1887, to guide ships serving the local bluestone and timber trade. Its closed to the bublic so you can only look from outside. Still an impresive structure. In its life time it got some upgrdaes. • 1908: Switched to coal gas (brighter, 15-mile range). • 1920: Automated with acetylene gas; light was de-manned. • 1969: Converted to 240V mains electricity with battery backup. • 2018: Retrofitted with an LED array while keeping the original 1886/1887 Chance Brothers lens.
